Picnic on the Housatonic!
|

|
Our Picnic begins at noon - look for the tent with the TU sign, in the back parking lot at Housatonic Meadows State Park. (1/16th of a mile north of CT-4 on US-7 in Cornwall Bridge) Picnic Lunch at two-oclock, a raffle and lots of great fishing on the Housatonic. The weather is complying by giving us rain (Wednesday night) and Saturday's weather looks cloudy& overcast with a few showers (the fish do love their water!) Remember - this is Connecticut. It might be raining at your house but move a mile over and you can find a sunny day! For details on the picnic visit our new easy to use website at
WWW.NWCTU.COM.
This may be the last decent fishing day on the Housatonic for trout before the water temperatures rise to what the trout won't feed at, and the Bass take over. Bass are lots of fun on a fly - but you'll need 3wt or 4wt tippet and a 6-8wt rod for those!
We'll have three grills going, and great Vittles!
Don't forget - you can bring a friend! These picnic fishing days are the perfect time to learn a new casting technique, meet new friends, talk with your old friends and make new memories!
See you on Satuday! |

Just a note here. While looking for deals on rods and reels for some beginner fly-fishers, I visited Sierra Trading online and picked up 275 yards of fluorocarbon tippet material (you know it's just monofiliment, right?) for $5.00. I figure if I used 10 yards (30 ft) of 5wt tippet a year, $5 covers me for the next 27.5 years.
I've used this brand for the past 5 or 6 years since discovering Sierra - they get discontinued stuff from Simms, Allen, Black River, Sage, and others. Good thing I don't need any more sets of stocking-foot waders. I saw some I liked for $50!
