March 20th, 2018 is the first day of spring here in Connecticut and as I write this paragraph on March 13th, in the NW corner last night and this moring, we received another five inches of snow (on top of the 41" received last week. As I was pondering what to do with the last contribution from this morning, it began snowing again and I can see from the weater report at
www.noaa.gov, it's still winter. Still, spring being so close, brings hope that the snow will melt, the trees will grow and all will be well by the 20th.
While fly fishing in TMA's remains open most of the year, this year the craziest day will be April 14th when all the harvesters come out and take anything that swims(in honor of opening day). I try not to go out on opening day, except to support those guys making flapjacks at the local firehouse.
On March 3rd, we had a good showing at Bohemian Pizza in Litchfield at our fly tying. Thanks to all those that came, and while I'm on the subject here, the food and service at this place is terrific!
On the 6th of March, Alecia Charamaut gave an excellent presentation at our monthly meeting - feel free to read our monthly meeting minutes at the chapter's website
here.
Connecticut has introduced some new fishing regulations, including a Trout Stamp. You can visit the state's website for details, though we'll be adding the 2018 Angler's Guide and Trout Stamp regulations to our
website later this week or when it's released by DEEP.
Next month's meeting will be held at the
Torrington Knights of Columbus hall, at the intersection of Litchfield Ave and Prospect St. at 7:30pm. Refreshments will be served. After the meeting we'll hear from a special guest speaker, Jeff Yates, the Volunteer Services Coordinator at Trout Unlimited. Jeff will be talking about the opportunities that we in the NW Corner have with regard to conservation efforts in our watersheds.
Our meeting will begin with a fly-swap, we'll go over some locations to fish while the snow melts, hear some exiting news on upcoming events!
