NWCTU Summer 18' Newsletter
|
|
You can send your newsworthy reports, fly tying patterns, fishing encounters and anything else now, and we'll post them on the chapter's website. Send an email to ken.ludwig@nwctu.com and include the location, folks in the photograph(s), what the activity was, and why you consider it newsworthy. For example; you send two pictures of kids with fish, and write me the note; From TU Member, Ken Ludwig, at Bulls's Bridge TMA, the first photo shows my daugher and her Brown Trout, caught on a mouse pattern, and the other photo of my son and his catch of the day, a 27" Small Mouth Bass., caught on a Wooly Bugger.
Now, I don't have any kids of my own, so use your own, or take photos of yourself with your fish.
This is the last newsletter until sometime during the beginning of September. Next Tueday's meeting will be our last meeting until October. Visit our website (it never closes) for detailed information on goings on this summer. |

Awesome Fishing

Can you rembember back to the first time you ever held a fly rod? I'm lucky enough to live on the Housatonic River, but as you know, the river is wider than you can cast to, with even a 10' rod. I recently had an exhilarating experience on the Farmington River when I learned to Spey Cast.
I met Jerry from Northeast Spey at UpCountry Sportsfishing on US-44 and got a short course in the different types of spey casting. After a bathroom break, we went over to Callahan Park and in the shade, practiced the six different casts, on the lawn. After I figured I had all these casts down, we went to the river and I had an incredible experience, because with no experience at all, I was able to cast distances over 80 feet, in my first five minutes, using the three casts I actually remembered, because once you cast 80' you forget everything but your name!
You might remember, NorthEast Spey came to a meeting a few months back and offered us special pricing during April and May. The Special pricing is over but for $75 you can learn to speycast using their equipment, in only a few hours. Contact Lisa Weiner, tell her you belong to NWCTU to set up an appointment with them
HERE! Additional appointments are complimentary, they're only interest is in your success in this stimulating area of casting.
Make sure to visit UpCountry this summer. They're having a huge sale on line, flies and rods - I picked up a pair of Korkers' wading boots, named Hatchback's - you put your foot in effortlessly through the rear, and lace up! As I was meeting Jerry for my Spey Casting class I didn't get the chance to check out all the rods they've got on sale, but I'm going tomorrow as I'm meeting Jerry for my 2nd Spey casting class. |
