At least on the Housatonic, there's plenty of water. Someone from another club complained to me the other day that there wasn't enough water in the Farmington River to cast a reflection on...This is clearly not the case on the Housatonic. I've been fishing on the Housatonic nearly every day in the past three weeks. The water is clear, and there's still plenty of it, however it is currently the lowest I've seen it in seven years. There's plenty of fish, and where there's pocktet water, there's trapped (and probably hungry) fish.
Yesterday I went out fishing with two NWCT chapter members on the Housatonic, and everyone caught fish. Most of the time, I can look as far as I can see down the river and rarely do I see anyone fishing. Yesterday, it was like that until around noon, and then people started showing up at Push-Em-Up and below.
Remember to fish the shade while the water is warm and the sun is shining. Orange was the top color yesterday, we saw lots of light brown and orange flies out on the water as well. |

Registration for fishing at the DSR is closed for this year. We'll put out a report when we come back, hopefully with a couple of photos. |

October 3rd (Tuesday Night), at 7:30 we'll meet for our October Meeting.
There's a ton of stuff going on this year, much more than years past. Show up at the meeting with your ideas, (a fly for the fly swap), get some coffee and cake while you're there!
7:30 at the Elks Lodge in Torrington (70 Litchfield Ave)
We're looking for a chairperson that can manage an initive to invite more members into our chapter, specifically younger people and women who fish or want to work in conservation projects.
For more info, please attend our meeting. |

Our next outing and picnic is on Saturday, October 14th, at Housatonic Meadows State Park, in the rear parking lot. Last time, a few people went to the Housatonic Meadows Campground by mistake. Remember, the outing is just north of the intersection where CT-4 meets US-7 and forms the hamlet of Cornwall Bridge.
We'll have food, beverages, casting instruction and maybe a raffle. If you need a guide on the water, just say so.
A fly rod from 8'6" to 10' is fine, normally, you can fish this area of the Housy with a 4wt or 5wt rod, and floating line.
A wading staff is recommended. |
