The river is finally cooperating with the fly anglers in waders. This morning around 7:00 I drove down to Kent for breakfast and noted two vehicles at Garbage Pool, a car at the turnaround trail parking lot, and two vehicles in the front parking lot at Housatonic Meadows. On the way back from Breakfast, around 10:00 am most of the pull off's were populated, and even the walk-in at Carse Brook had a car in it. One of the Hotchkiss busses was in the front parking lot at the Meadows and there were two anglers in back, off the boat ramps.
I passed by all the pull off's tonight (7pm) on the way to Cornwall Bridge and all of the pulloffs were full. I looked at the water at 7 tonight and it was quite inviting. Here's the Housy gage

It isn't often that the Farmington River is higher than the Housatonic, and they're currently neck and neck. The gage is Riverton is on the Route 20 bridge on the East end of town, but if you're fishing lower on the river, then you've got to take into account the Still River Confluence, (this is where Route 20 meets West River Rd), and this time of year, it's normally a couple hundred CFS. Here's the gage report on the Farmington at Riverton.

For those of us who need a slower experience this weekend, fish the Naugatuck River, off the Campville Exit (From Torrington, take Rte 8 south to the Campville Exit, then make a left to go under the freeway, and another left onto Campville Rd. Follow this to the intersection with Valley Rd. The river follows Valley both ways.
Here's the current river values for the Naugatuck.
