Have you been to the chapter website recently? When you visit the website, you'll see a photo of the Housatonic River and a menu down at the bottom. Scroll down to the bottom then hover over the menu options, and you'll see drop-down menus in all the menu options. Click on one of those drop-down items to visit that part of the website.
For example, when you hover over the Resources tab, you'll see a dropdown that includes our Mission Statement, links to Fly Tying and Fly Casting info, Local Fishing Conditions, the New Regulations from DEEP for 2018, Deep's Stocking Report, an archive of the past 10 years of Trout Magazine, and an archive of meeting minutes. All of that in just one menu tab. Hover over "News and Events", and you can pick Future Events to see details for all picnics, casting clinics and special Events. So, lets say you can't come to tomorrow's picnic but you do want to come to one in the future. Hover over News and Events, then click on Future Events in the drop down, which will take you to
this page. There are currently 28 individual places in our drop-down menu's, from photos of past conservation events, casting classes, and picnics, schedules of future events, past meeting minutes, schedules of future meetings and even a forum, which when you're signed up, you can find people like yourself who want to go fishing, or plant trees & bushes along rivers in our area, or like to tie flies. All this, on one website.
The chapters' website is located at www.nwctu.com. It is updated about twice per month.

Picnic, 7/14/18 (Tomorrow) on the Farmington River

Come to tomorrow's Picnic. The chapter leadership will set up around 10:45. Look for the sign at the recreation area and the chapter banners marking the spot. Our two tents will have chapter info, guest signup, snacks and water. We'll be using the front lawn for casting lessons and a casting contest (how many targets do you think you can hit?)
We'll be bringing our own restroom but the park has one as well. Food will be available around 12:30.
If you're fishing, bring dry flies and emergers, there are several hatches through the day. If you nymph, or fish below the surface, you might see one of those Atlantic Salmon because this area of the river(from Greenwood Rd to CT-20) is where most of those Salmon are released! Tomorrow's weather forecast at our picnic location says a slight chance of a thundershower sometime after 2:00pm. Quoted from NOAA.gov
"A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%."
That low wind speed of 3-7 MPH means that your casting won't be impeeded.
You should bring some suntan lotion so your ears don't burn, and a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes.
We picked this spot because of all the shade, and because the state treats the area for insects, so it's a pretty darn good site to have a picnic. |

While you're on the website, hover over the "Donate" tab and click on Amazon Smile. You'll see the instructions for setting up Amazon Smile on your device, so that when you purchase from Amazon, 1/2 of 1% of your purchase is donated by the vendor to our chapter of TU. That means, if you buy something at smile.amazon.com for $1000, 1/2 of 1% (or $5) will be donated to our chapter.
There's no cost to you, and every time you buy something from Amazon, do it from the smile site and Amazon will send us a donation. |
