This year, our focus has been on Ontario foods. We have been busy through the harvest season, preserving, dehydrating & freezing as much fruit & vegetables as we can. We also found a few wonderful suppliers, especially the 100-mile market, who buy from local farms and deliver to us! In the past, I’ve mostly purchased fruits & vegetables from the Ontario Food Terminal, but have had a hard time sourcing out other ingredients without doing a ton of running around. With the help of the 100-mile market, we now stock our kitchen staples, like butter, eggs, honey, and some cheese, grains, as well as certain types of beef, pork & chicken from local sources. We’ve also met the nice people at the Black River Cheese company, & I’m loving the selection of all natural cheese that we have been featuring on our cheese trays, as well as sandwiches & certain recipes.
We’ve marked all local food with the foodland Ontario symbol on our menus, to let you know how serious we are about supporting the economy & the environment in every way we can.
