Prop C, or the Health Care Freedom Act, essentially says that Missouri citizens cannot be compelled to accept a government mandated health care plan that calls for stiff financial penalties. It also asserts that the federal health care initiative intrudes on states’ rights.
For Prop C to succeed, Attorney General Koster will have to be a vigorous advocate. He must stand ready to defend individuals and small businesses prosecuted for refusing to buy government mandated health insurance, and he will have to be prepared and willing to defend the principles of Prop C should the federal government attempt to sue to have it overturned.
The attorney general has been reluctant to get involved in efforts to blunt the federal government’s intrusion on states’ rights and consumer health choices. The strong endorsement of Prop C suggests it’s time for the attorney general to start fighting for his state.
