Memorial Weekend Hours
 If your dog is staying with us over the Memorial Day Weekend, be aware that we have some different holiday hours! On Saturday, May 29th we will be open from 8am-5pm for a typical day of daycare, boarding and grooming. On Sunday, May 30th we will be open for boarding drop-off and pick up from 4-7 pm. Monday, May 31st there will be no daycare, but we will be open from 4-7 pm for boarding pick-up only. 
Hurray for Saturdays!
 As you know, we have always been open from 8-5 on Saturdays for daycare, boarding and grooming. However...we have had so many people tell us that we should be open later on Saturdays and that it was difficult to get to DoGone Fun! by 5.
You spoke - we listened! Starting TODAY, May 1st, we are officially open until 7 pm on Saturdays! We still won't have late pick-ups on Saturday, but you will no longer have to brave the 4:45 traffic and hope you make it by 5!
South Loop Dog PAC
DoGone Fun! has recently joined the South Loop Dog Park Action Cooperative and we're looking to you to support them too! The South Loop Dog PAC is committed to creating and maintaining the beautiful dog parks in the south loop area. They recently acquired the area at 16th and Wabash for a new dog park, too!
 Here's the catch - did you know that each park costs a minimum of $400 per year to maintain? That $400 only really covers bare-bones minimum (twice yearly cleaning and some poop-bags in the dispensers). With more funding, the South Loop Dog PAC is hoping to do things like install poop-bag dispensers on street corners, replace gravel pits when necessary (and other maintenance at the parks), and keep the dog parks clean and welcoming!
What can you do to help? Easy! Sign up to become a member of the South Loop Dog PAC and donate a one-time amount of $15-$75. You'll be included in their email newsletter so you can keep up on the latest news and your donation will be a huge help! Don't quite have the spare change in your budget? Volunteering your time is another great way to help out. Those of us at DoGone Fun! are going to be at the Grant Bark Park one Saturday in May doing our part to help the park. Warm Weather Approaches
 With the promise of sunny days and warm weather around the corner, keep your pooch's health in mind. If you have a short-haired dog with a light colored coat, you may want to consider sunscreen! Just like we need to protect our skin from the sun, dogs whose fur is shorter and lighter may need a little extra protection.
Hydration is another important summer-weather concern. Without proper hydration and a chance to cool off, dogs can easily overheat. How can you tell? The easiest way to tell is excessive, heavy panting. You can also check their gums - press a finger against your dog's gumline and see how quickly the color returns. The longer it takes, the more likely it is your dog may be dehydrated or overheated.
So what should you do? It's always better to be proactive py providing plenty of water for your dog to drink and shady areas to get out of the sun. If your dog does become overheated, move him or her to a cooler, possibly air-conditioned spot. Encourage your pooch to drink water, and apply cool (not cold!) water to places like the neck or armpits. Enjoy the sunshine and warmth, but be smart about it!

 In case you hadn't already heard, our trainer Judit Arroyo passed her tests and is now officially a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. She's Judit Arroyo, CPDT-KA!! We're all so proud of her for such a huge accomplishment!
Want to work with our awesome trainer? She does have classes currently in session! Back to Basics, our "beginner level" class for dogs older than 5 months, started this past Thursday from 7-8 pm. Puppy Preschool, a wonderful socialization and training option for the younger crowd, also started this past Thursday from 8:15-9:15pm. Missed the first class? Don't worry, Judit would love to have you join the class anyway! Give us a call if you have any questions...or to sign up for one of the classes!
