Dear Subscriber,
Are you the family photographer?
We'd like to offer a few suggestions on how you can balance your photographic interests with your family's needs.
Here are some ways you can please everyone.

Take Pictures During Your Personal Time…Not Theirs
Families usually take a while to get up and out during the morning hours.
So, get up early and take your artsy pictures. You’ll get great shots in the day's purest light…and have private time you’ll relish.
Accept the fact that sunset is usually dedicated to family, but expect a compromise that may allow you to claim a few sunsets for yourself.
During the day, when it’s family time, keep everyone very active. Take candids rather than asking for posed pictures.
Make your photographs part of the fun by showing everyone their pictures at appropriate times.

Bring Everyone’s Pictures Into Your Vacation
These days everyone, including the kids, will be snapping away…whether on their own cameras or cell phones.
Be the friendly coach. Compliment their shots. Offer advice where it will be accepted. Then, be sure that their pictures are brought into the final family album.

Take Advantage of Theme Park Photo Opportunities
An easy photo op: Family members will gladly pose with cooperative cast characters. You’ll be amazed at the spontaneous-looking pictures you’ll get.
Don’t forget night photography. While your family is enjoying their park activities you can shoot some great pictures.

Lighten Up On Your Equipment and Your Expectations
- Use a trusty point and shoot rather than carting around all your gear. A point and shoot is less intimidating and you’re still getting your fix.
- During the day, when the light is not at its best, augment it with fill flash, and focus on your family members.
- Try to keep your photography low-key so it doesn’t become the #1 priority.
- Don’t expect a family-oriented vacation to be like it was when you had the luxury of being on a photo tour. Change your mindset and you’ll find that even the simplest vacation picture will become more special.

Try For At Least One Family Portrait
Use the trip to create an informal family portrait that can be used as a holiday card.
Turn your portrait session into a fun event. Let the kids get goofy for a few shots.
While it may not make the cover of National Geographic, you’re still going to get a great picture showing the good times of your life.

Insure Your Memories By Making Prints
The best insurance you can buy to preserve your pictures for future generations is a 25¢ print of each important shot.
Of course, you should back up your digital files. But, ten years from now…when the kids are all grown up…the prints will remain while there’s no knowing where the original digital files will be.
Just upload your images to iPrints.com for top-quality, color-corrected prints. You snap the pictures...we'll do the rest!
Best wishes,
