HOLIDAY BOOK FESTIVAL~ LOCAL BOOK WRITERS
November 11, 2021 Southfield, MI -- Detroit Book City Bookstore will host it's Holiday Book Festival 2021 on Saturday, December 4th from 12:30pm - 5pm at 27204 West Eight Mile Road Southfield, MI 48033.
This festive, one-day event is hosted to bring local excitement about giving books as holiday gifts. Spectators meet book authors face-to-face and buy autographed copies on the spot. The event’s goal is to remind book lovers to ‘shop local’ when buying books this year!
"Christmas is a very sacred time of the year. It’s a time to reflect and plan but more importantly to read. Since the pandemic, we’ve witnessed a surge of Detroiters wanting the physical book. Christmas holiday time is the best time of the year to help someone start-up a little home library or add books to a current one. Books are priceless. Independent authors are valuable assets to our community. They tell the local stories, experiences and imaginations. It’s time to get to know who the local Black authors are. That’s what our platform has been about since February 2017...connecting local writers to the community at the family level.” said Janeice Haynes.
Detroit Book City’s event will exhibit over 20 independent authors along with featured guest author, Dr. Tamika K. Cross, MD. This native Detroitter’s debut title, “What A Doctor Looks Like” has hit the market and she’s ready to share it in her hometown. Tamika knew at a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in medicine as a physician and she was able to navigate the many obstacles necessary to achieve her childhood dream.
The event doors open to the public at 12:30pm. Get fun photos with Santa from 1:30pm-3:30pm! Be one of the first one hundred adult arrivals, get a free ‘swag bag’ ! Enjoy the soft, soulful Christmas tunes by DJ Holly. Holiday snacks will be available for public purchase.
