Open House June 18,
(rain date June 19) 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sea serpents adorn
the helmet of a shy warrior perched on the blue stone walkway in the midst of
fragrant and colorful gardens designed and planted by artist Judy Andrews at
Sanctuary Arts. It’s time for the Third Annual Sculpture Garden Exhibition,
Iron Pour and Open House at Sanctuary Arts, Art School and Sculpture Center,
117 Bolt Hill Rd., Eliot, Maine.
The exhibit launches
with an open house and artist reception on June 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and
continues through September. The Open House will include a tour of Green
Foundry, our iron, bronze and aluminum casting studio, and a public Iron Pour
into hand carved “scratch molds” to create tiles that can be taken home that
day.
The lush gardens are
complemented by the work of regional professional sculptors, creating a
symbiosis that enhances both the work and the plantings. Visitors are invited
to enjoy the beauty of original sculpture, relax on the grounds, feed the
chickens and perhaps create a small iron tile to take home that day. Medallic
sculptor Linda McVay's studio will also be open for viewing. A partial listing
of exhibiting regional artists includes Antoinette Schultze. Gary Haven Smith,
Sumner Winebaum, Anne Thompson, Nancy Sander, Lindley Briggs, David Allard, Don
Severance, Alexander Renard, Elizabeth Ostrander, Michael Stasiuk, Gary
Rathmell, Alan Eves, David Davies and Christopher Gowell.

“Not to be missed is
a “Hot” fund raising event to benefit our artist friend Ali Goodwin, recently
diagnosed with breast cancer. Cast iron with Green Foundry, friends, and
students who will be hosting Iron Pour for a Cure. A donation of $10 will
purchase a “scratch” mold- a block of hardened sand. Participants will carve a
design into their mold. At 2:00 the crew at Green Foundry will cast molten iron
into all the scratch molds prepared. Participants can take their masterpieces
home at the end of the pour!
