THE HEAT IS ON! We are in the heart of hot season, and is it ever hot! All of the thermometers are in Celsius, which means nothing to me, so when I see 44 degrees every day, I generally don't think too much of it. That is until today, when Val did a quick conversion on her phone and informed me that 44 degress Celsius is actually 111 degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes!
We are doing our best to survive, and try to get out of the house and into air conditioned places as much as possible. Malls, restaurants, church, etc. Lord willing, hot season will finally be over by the end of this month, and then it will start raining every day.
Despite the weather, we still have a lot going on and are excited to share with you what we have been up to.

"Building" Relationships
A
number of months ago a man in one of the communities where our mission
organization does ministry was electrocuted and died. He left his widow and their 8 children destitute. They no longer could afford the meager one
room dwelling they were living in and things were looking hopeless. We were alerted to this situation by one of
our partner pastors in the area and we began praying about how we could
help. It
became clear to us that what this woman physically needed was a home for her
and her children. After some research,
we determined that all in all, the purchase of a small piece of land and a home
on the property would cost about $2000.
One of our missionary friends raised about $500 and Val and I felt led
to pay for the remainder of the project ($1500) using the entire balance of one
of our ministry/compassion accounts.
The funds that were in that account were a direct result of the gifts
that many of you give. The sacrifice that
each of you make by giving to His ministry, allows our family to exist in the Philippines, but in times like this we want
to make sure you are aware of the life changing impact that each of you have
had on another family. When the project
is finished, we are going to have a housewarming party and invite members of the
community to share in the joy that God has blessed Lhea and her family with (pictured above, minus 4 of the children),
through the generosity of many of you. At that time,
we will have a very unique opportunity to tell numerous people in the community
how God wants to address their hopeless spiritual need and build them a brand
new home in Heaven. As cliché as it
might sound, it is true: People don't
care how much you know until they know how much you care. Your support has allowed us to show these
people how much God cares for each of them, which we are confident will open
their hearts to hear what else Christ has done for them and why. Thank you for the role you play to help
further His kingdom. |

Pigs Don't Live in Houses...
Some
of you may have heard this phrase before, and growing up, I must have
heard it a million times... at least! Recently, I have learned that
this statement is in fact, false. Pigs do live in houses.
Last
year, after Typhoon Ondoy hit Manila with the worst flooding in a long
time, we were connected with a community whose livelihood was based on
raising pigs. As a result of the flooding, all of the pigs in the
community had drowned and many of the makeshift pens were washed away.
What
started out as a project to help some flood victims get back on their
feet has turned into a great opportunity to support ongoing ministry.
After raising some initial funds to purchase piglets and build a "pig
house," we are almost through the first batch of pigs. We will sell
them to the butcher and start over again with a new batch. Through the
process, we are able to provide employment for one worker and after the
pigs are sold, we will be able to purchase a new batch of piglets,
buy enough food to carry them to maturity, put money aside for our
worker, and then use whatever is left to fund the ministry activities
we have in the area.
Stay tuned for more info about this project
and how you might have the opportunity to get involved in our continuing
efforts to help the community of Malaking Parang (Big Meadow) get back
on their feet.
Through it all, we believe that this is just
one more tangible way that we can show people the love of Christ.
Thanks for praying that as we raise pigs, in houses, God will use that
as a way for us to share the Gospel. |
