2nd Congressional District Issues Conference
Too often many of our fellow conservative grassroots activists feel that the either the Party or some of our Elected Officials do not always hear our voices. I tend to agree.
If I am elected as your 2nd District Chairman, I will implement a plan to have our voices formally heard on an annual basis.
I will put together a committee to plan for the first ever 2nd Congressional District Issues Conference. We will ask for all participants to pre-register in order to create issue teams. For example, we will have an economics team, a national defense team, an energy team, a health care team, etc... After our teams are in place, we will meet separately prior to the conference to work out our team platforms. During the Conference, each team will make a presentation and all of us will debate, amend and finally vote on our recommendations. We then move on to the next team's presentation. At the end of the Conference, we will have our Issues Platform. We will then compile our recommendations and forward them to all of our elected officials, as well as the Republican Party of VA and the Republican National Committee.
This will be a constructive, professional and concrete way for all of our concerns and ideas to be transmitted to our leadership and electeds. This will also serve as a valuable tool for our electeds to gage where we stand.
If you elect me as your Chairman, together our voices and our views will be heard! |
Technology
Four years ago, when I was Chairman of the 2nd District, I created and implemented the District's first ever Website. It was (and many of you may remember our stickers) 2DGOP.com. Unfortunately, for the past two years the Second Congressional District Republican party has had NO Web Site. This is unacceptable. The State Party has a Web Site. The Va.Beach, Norfolk and Hampton Parties have web sites. Why, after two years, does the 2nd District Committee have no Web Site? To their credit, after two years, the current chairman finally set up a Facebook account for the 2nd district just last week.
If we are to beat Moveon.org and the Democrats at their own game, then we must bring the 2nd Congressional District GOP into the 21st century. We must have a presence on the Web and utilize all forms of communication and technology.
In fact, I had the pleasure of attending the Hampton Roads Tea Party Congress last weekend. They spent over half of their training on utilizing technology. So, in other words, the Hampton Roads Tea Party ( a one year old grassroots activists organization) is well ahead of the 2nd Congressional District Republican Party. We should be teaching them, not the other way around. I am very proud to be a member of the Tea Party; however, I am disappointed in the 2nd District. We can do better, We must do better! |
My Pledge to You:
- I will lead the charge and together we will win back our Congressional Seat which was lost in November of 2008. For the first time since 1964, the Second Congressional District Republican Party lost President, U.S. Senate and Congress all at the same time!
- We will prepare the 2nd Congressional District for 2012 by reinvigorating our base and grassroots and reorganize our City and County Parties for 2010.
- I will always hold the Congressional District Committee meetings in an open and public place.
- I will always keep all meetings open. I will never hold a meeting that is closed to our activists like what took place on Saturday, January 9th when the 2nd District Committee held a "Listening Meeting" with a couple of Elected Officials and some of the Congressional Candidates. Over 30 party activists were kept out of the meeting. Only after an hour were the rest of us allowed in. This is unacceptable for any reason!
- I will hold regular District Committee meetings and publish it on our Web Site.
- I will reinstate the 2nd District Web site.
- I will link on our Web Site all State Board and Commission vacancies that the Governor will be looking to fill.
- I will link our Web Site to City and County Boards and Commissions that are vacant and will need to be filled. One of the best ways to effect change on a local level is for Conservatives to be part of the Committee / Board and Commission appointment processes.
- I will create and hold Annual Congressional District Issues Conferences (see above).
- I will invite Conservative groups who have left the party to rejoin. I will not merely talk about being a conservative, I will actually get conservatives involved.

I would be honored for you to join me in my "Positive Campaign for Growth"!
Thanks for all you do!
