Each time I read the story of creation, I am amazed at how orderly our God is. First the earth was in chaotic darkness, then the Sprit brood upon the earth. The picture is that of a hen brooding over her eggs to hatch them. Then God spoke, ’Let there be light’ and there was light. Nothing could have been happened here until light appeared. The earth had been frozen by darkness.
Then He created Heaven which was the firmament which divided the waters into two- above and beneath. There was now heaven and earth, light and darkness. Then He came to the waters in the earth and commanded the waters to gather together and the dry land to appear. Now there is heaven and earth, light and darkness and the earth has been divided into dry land and seas.
Then He went to the dry land and commanded it to bring for the herbs, grass, trees with fruit. Now there was vegetation. Then He made the sun and the moon for signs, seasons, days and years. Is that not the system that sustains the vegetation?
Then He called forth the aquatic community and the plumage company- fishes and birds, Then He called the earth to bring forth the animals. After He had created everything else, He created His masterpiece-Man. Everything man would need for survival was already in place before he came along. He would not have survived if he was created on the second or third day. That is how orderly and precise the creation process was.
The order is astonishing yet very comforting. I look at some of the miracles of creation, like the birth of a baby and the order is also there. One thing triggers off another until the is born. The fertilized egg is sustained by hormones in the fallopian tubes until it rolls into the uterus and implants to the uterine wall through the placenta. The placenta forms at the point of implantation and not before. The cervix must unplug before dilatation takes place for the baby to be born. The contractions must take place at certain intensity before the baby can come out. Until it gets there, the baby does come out. One thing happens before the other. Nothing overtakes the other. Precision and order.
He takes creation a step further and sustains the earth by the word of His power. He didn't just create it, He makes sure that it remains in existence. In the same way, He makes sure the hairs on our heads are numbered. He watches out with the same precision for the sparrow. He makes sure the seasons don’t fail. The sun rises every morning in the East and sets in the West no matter where you are in the world.
Why does it comfort me? If He created the earth with that much order/precision and also created me, then it must mean that my life has an order that He has planned into it, one thing at a time. If the sun rises every morning, then He also sustains my life. When things don’t go according to my plans, I know that they will not by pass His plan for me.
Life tries to make it look like I just dropped out of the sky- like I am a coincidence of nature. But I am not. The creation process tells me so. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, like the earth was. I am precisely sustained by the power of His word, like the earth is. There is a special plan for my life, just like there is for the Earth. Someday it will all come to an end, but not before the precisely, well thought out time, God has planned. I find a lot of comfort and confidence in that.
We must not let life tell us another story. We must not let the circumstances of life distort the truth concerning us. God is committed to His plan for our lives. We must believe that all the time. Or else we will live defeated lives. I will not be defeated, neither should anyone who calls the name of the Lord. Hold unto the reality of your creation. He has His eyes on you. Like Reverend Marvin Winans said at Whitney Houston's funeral, 'He's got ya'. Never forget that. CK
