PDX A GO-GO: MAKING WAVES UP NORTH
V/A COMPILATION FEATURES SUSAN SURFTONE
AND FOUR NORTH WEST SURF INSTRUMENTAL BANDS
including WaveSauce, Surf Weasels, Shade 13, Outer Space Heaters
Portland, OR, July 25, 2012 – Acme Brothers Records has released a Surf Instrumental music compilation CD featuring five bands delivering two tracks each called, PDX A Go-Go: Making Waves Up North. Bands include WaveSauce, Surf Weasels, Shade 13, Outer Space Heaters and Susan SurfTone.
Album is available at CDBaby, formats include CD and MP3s. Record Release Party will be at Duff's Garage on August 17th and features live performances by The Del-Rods, Wave Sauce, Outer Space Heaters and Susan SurfTone.
The album kicks off with WaveSauce performing "Phantom Strut." They also deliver track number six "Die Laughing." The band's use of Theremin lends them a distinctive sound. They are an instrumental pulp, surf, spyfi band inspired by space-age science and technology, sounds of ocean surf, classic horror, and '60s spy films. The Surf Weasels tracks are "El Nino" and "Ponderosa." Live they deliver the instrumental surf-rock classics people long to hear and count to their influences The Verbtones, Surf Trio, Satans Pilgrims, Dick Dale, The Ventures and others.
Shade 13 tracks are "Tucu's Law" and "Shade 13." The band is a Spaghetti Surf 'n' Turf Rock and Roll Power Trio. In cinematic terms they are Pulp Fiction meets the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. "This clearly insane quartet [Outer Space Heater] plays cinematic, instrumental, progressive, sci-fi themed surf-space rock," the Portland Tribune wrote, "which should excite fans of early Pink Floyd, Dick Dale, Man or Astro-Man and Explosions in the Sky." The two tracks they have on the compilation are ""Aphelion" and "Space Cowboy."
Susan SurfTone tracks are "Rock Candy" and "Salt Water." SurfTone is currently supporting her critically acclaimed solo album, Shore. For live shows the line-up features Susan SurfTone on lead guitar, Avory Gray (organ/percussion), Paul Barrall (drums), Dan Ferguson (bass) and Seana Steele (Go-Go dancer).
