With Milan Fashion Week now in full swing, we are being bombarded by images and reviews from Italy’s design hub, and according to Global Language Monitor – a narrative tracker that examines the top 250,000 news and social media sources - Milan is only the No. 8 fashion capital in the world. So does a city that isn’t even in the top 5 deserve to be in the “Big Four”? History aside, what is it that makes a fashion capital? With cities like Antwerp, São Paolo and Florence rocketing up the list, maybe it’s time for the “Big Four” to expand. After all, if no one is talking about it, can it be that important?
