Joshua Tree Music Festival starts today

Greetings from Joshua Tree!
There's lots going on out here in the desert this week. If you like fun, relaxed music festivals, then hurry up and get headed out to the Joshua Tree Music Festival. I can't believe the line-up of international artists Barnett & crew have managed to put together this year, but I highly recommend taking it all in yourself in person.
Film fans can head up into the mountains to Lake Arrowhead (see below), while astronomy fans have many options to choose from for our solar eclipse this weekend.
I encourage folks who are interested in the desert to check our new website at www.thesunrunner.com on a regular basis. Not only do you get all our calendar event listings there, but you get desert news, culture, videos, etc. It's a fun place to browse, and we add to it all the time.
Finally, I would like to ask all of you who have a Facebook account to please go to www.missionsmallbusiness.com and vote for us. We've applied for a grant from Chase and Livingsocial, but to be considered for it, we must get 250+ votes in the next few weeks. You just log in with your Facebook account (they want to make sure there is only one vote per person), input "sun runner" as the business name, "joshua tree" as the city, and "california" as the state, and we pop up. It costs you nothing but a few seconds of your time, and it could make a huge difference for the desert region.
I appreciate your support for our work to support the desert.
All the best,
Steve Brown
desert wanderer in chief

The Indio Performing Arts Center (IPAC) is hosting a summer acting camp for teens and kids June 18-29, Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. The session will culminate in a live performance at the theatre.
Campers will be coached in acting and improvisation techniques, including physicality, vocal enunciation, projection and expression, and character building. These skills will then be applied to the live performance, which will be open to friends, family and the general public.
The session will be led by Jeanette Knight, an award-winning actor, director and educator who recently played Louise to sold-out audiences in IPAC’s "Always, Patsy Cline." She currently is part of the theatre faculty at the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy, and has served as an artist-in-residence for the California Arts Council, Beaumont Actors Studio, and the McCallum Theatre, where she was also its Education Program Manager for eight years. She has over 40 roles and 20 directing credits nationwide, including a stint at the Tony award-winning Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. She founded "Joe & Mustard," the long-form improvisational acting troupe, whose members have been dubbed "masters" of the art form. She is a member of Actors Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild.
Tuition for the two weeks is $300, with discounts available for early registration. A limited number of scholarships are available. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants. The Indio Performing Arts Center is a non-profit 501© 3 tax exempt public benefit corporation.
For more information, call Jeanette at (760) 320-2825 or (760) 408-4715.

| If you're up Ridgecrest way, please drop by the Maturango Museum and check out the exhibit by Greg Gilbert - "Way Out West." Greg finds beauty in anything antique and condenses historic locations into abstract shapes mixed with "lonesome stark reality." Greg's work will be up through June 19. Well worth a visit. |
