Stephen Kinnock has been the Labour MP for Aberavon since 2015 and sat on the Welsh Affairs Committee from 2016-2018. He currently sits on the Committee for Exiting the European Union and the EU Scrutiny Committee, as well as being the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Reuniting Britain post Brexit and Vice Chair of the APPG for Steel and Metal Related Industries.
Stephen has also been the chair for the APPG on Post-Brexit Funding for Nations, Regions and Local Areas since its establishment in June 2018. The group has recently published a report on an initial inquiry into the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which will replace the EU Structural Funds when the UK exits the European Union on 29 March 2019.
EU Structural Funds are a lifeline to millions of people as they help support local and regional economic development in some of the least prosperous areas in the UK. West Wales and the Valleys received large sums, circa £1.8bn in the period 2014-2020, and the APPG plays a vital role ensuring that the funds are replaced by the UK Government in the long term and that the Treasury commits to delivering “not a penny less” to all areas that currently receive them.
The full report can be found
here.
In addition, Stephen has edited a book entitled “Spirit of Britain, Purpose of Labour,” which explores ways to unite our deeply divided country by means of six seismic shifts needed for the Labour Party to become ‘whole nation’ party.
The book also contains chapters from other MPs, academics and business leaders which discuss four value-driven aspects of our society; “Work”, “Community”, Family” and “Country” which are fundamental in bridging the gap between old and young, graduate and non-graduate, and the growing divide between our cities and towns.
A downloadable copy of the book can be
found here.
