Happy spring. The new issue is out and we are ready to get out and about ourselves.
This time we venture to the Khyber Pass with newcomer Maliha Masood on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. We hear about the mishaps of fishing in Belize with newcomer Steve McNutt and see off-kilter Mexico City from different angles with yours truly.
And as usual, reviews of some noteworthy world music albums, this time two from India, one from Mexico, and one from the lands of Salsa. See the current issue page.

We Score More Travel Writing Awards After scoring multiple wins in the Solas Awards sponsored by Travelers' Tales Publishing, we racked up some more kudos this past month. Amy Rosen was the big kahuna this time, pulling in a first prize among everyone who wrote about the UK in the VisitBritian travel journalism awards. Then she turned around and got four more shout-outs from the North American Travel Journalists Association, two of those for Perceptive Travel stories. Nice! See the links on this month's home page.

Win a cool little camera from Casio! Congrats to Carolina B--who is really from New Jersey--who will be traveling around the world wearing a sharp-looking Fanatic Jacket from Outdoor Research. (By the way, we accepted either North Carolina or California as the site of the first discovery of gold in the U.S. My bad in the wording.)
This month's prize is a Casio Exilim Z80 digital camera. I've used a similar one to this on several trips and have gotten some amazing landscape shots with it. Lightweight and fits in a pocket too.
To enter, send answers to these questions and your snail mail address to editor (at) perceptivetravel.com or reply to this newsletter. (Hint--all answers are in the current issue and your odds are probably better than you think...)
1) How are some people damaging the reefs in Belize? 2) About how many refugees moved from Afghanistan to Pakistan after the Soviet invasion? 3) Who is the mayor of Mexico City?

As always, thanks for your support. Feel free to spread the word through Stumbling, Digging, Redditing, linking, posting, Tweeting, or pfluttering. (OK, I made the last one up, but where will it all end?) Or just shop with our advertisers and keep our writers fed--hopefully not with large imported rodents that are blackened or grilled. Happy Trails,
Tim Leffel Editor, Perceptive Travel
