Education: On May 28, 2019, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) upheld one part of a prolife Indiana law, which required humane burial or cremation of fetal remains, rather than disposing of them as medical waste. Texas has a similar law. While this decision can be viewed as a victory because it requires fetal remains to be treated as respectfully as other human remains, the court did not

rule on the other provision of the bill.
The bill as passed banned abortions which were based on sex, race, or disability. Just as the state does not allow discrimination on these factors for born people, Indiana wanted to protect the child in the womb from such discrimination. But the 7th Circuit District Court struck down that provision and the Supreme Court simply allowed that decision to stand, without hearing arguments on the question. Justice Clarence Thomas, however, wrote a response to the decision expressing his belief that “Given the potential for abortion to become a tool of eugenic manipulation, the [c]ourt will soon need to confront the constitutionality of laws like Indiana’s…. Enshrining the constitutional right to an abortion based solely on the race, sex, or disability of an unborn child, as Planned Parenthood advocates, would constitutionalize the views of the 20th Century eugenics movement.” Justice Thomas pointed out that Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was well-known to be an advocate of eugenics to eliminate “unfit” segments of society. Justice Thomas also noted that “Even after World War II, future Planned Parenthood President Alan Guttmacher and other abortion advocates endorsed abortion for eugenic reasons and promoted it as a means of controlling the population and improving its quality…”. Unfortunately, no other justices signed on to Justice Thomas’ statement.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please guide everyone involved in government on the local, state or national level to recognize the intrinsic value of human life within the womb. Help our government to come to understand that our preborn brothers and sisters are just as deserving as born people to the protection of the law. Have mercy on the several states which have passed radical provisions to allow abortion up until birth, and legalize the denial of medical care to abortion survivors. Call citizens in those states and in every state to stand up for the preborn and fight for their right to life, until our country is once again one that protects every human life from the moment of conception, when You have created a new human being.
