Finally: Good Weather!
Our weather is finally good-enough to fish. All this next week is forecast from high 60's to lower 80's with just a little bit of rain in the forecast. Rick Delprete, Dick Heffernon and Ken Ludwig visited (and fished) the Farmington @ Greenwoods this week. Check with them for details!
Below, you'll see some sales at some of our contributor's going on- please shop at these stores as they support our chapter. If you like to tie your own flies, check out JS Stockard n Kent (55% odd on hooks);
if you're in a hurry to fill your flyboxes, Flyshack.com has selected flies on sale for sixty-nine cents;
on Sunday, visit UP Country Sportsfishing in New Hartford - every $10 you spend earns you a chance to win at Sage's NE Tour. Yep, that's right, Sage Fly Fishing and RIO are coming to New Hartford!(3rd Column)
Eight days from now, our first Farmington River Outing (Saturday May 12th) will be at Legends B&B.(1st Column) All in all, look for some great fishing this year!
May 12th Outing
It's time to mark it on your calendar! Join us at Legends B&B in New Hartford/Barkhamsted, next to Greenwoods Park at our first Farmington River outing this year. We'll have casting instructions, a raffle, casting accuracy games, food & drinks, and World Class fly-fishing on the Farmington River. The weather forcast for the 12th (as of 5/4) is a calm, mostly sunny day with temperatures in the low to mid 70's. Like all outings, Members eat for free, non-members pay.
Please sign-in at the tent when you arrive to obtain a food ticket (so we know how many to cook for)
If you are not yet a member of NWCTU (#009) you can join at our introductory rate of $17.50 which is half-off the regular membership but with all the benefits!
If you plan on fishing bring studded waders; a 4, 5, or 6wt rod, with floating line, and a 9' 4x or 5x leader. Make sure to bring a landing net and a wading staff.
This portion of the river is in the TMA, so barbless hooks, catch and release is the rule. You'll also need your CT Fishing license with the Trout Stamp.
(Legends B&B is on 183 (W.River Rd.) next to the Farmington, between Route 44 and Morgan Brook Rd.
Salmon Kill (Salisbury) Conservation Day
On the 24th of April, representatives from our chapter shared the day with about 180 students from Salisbury public schools and Housatonic Valley Regional High School at the 6th Annual Salmon Kill Conservation Day, planting trees and learning about fish(and fish food), ecosystems, pollution, cold-water stream and river conservation and fly-fishing. Thanks to member-volunteers Bob Hart, Joe Cieslowski, Richard Heffernon, Mike Carano, and Patrick Sullivan(see article in Lakevill Journal-below) for teaching fly-casting at this event. We'll have a gallery of photos and a few videos of the event on our website sometime in the next few weeks.
If you'd like to volunteer at an upcoming conservation event in your area, contact any officer of NWCTU or
