Meet Delegate Jason Miyares
A New Generation of Virginia Conservative Leadership
Jason Miyares is an example of President Ronald Reagan’s "Shining City on the Hill." His story begins with his mother, Miriam Maria Miyares, who fled communist Cuba in 1965 with the clothes on her back and no idea from where her next meal would come. She legally immigrated to the United States and instilled in her three sons a passionate love of the freedom and democracy of America. Miyares grew up in Virginia Beach, attending schools and growing up in a middle-class household that emphasized the values of hard work, love of country, and service above self.
In November of 2015, he won the open seat to the 82nd District for the House of Delegates by the widest margin in the district's history. Jason Miyares has brought conservative leadership and accountability to Richmond while fighting for fiscal discipline and government transparency.
Jason Miyares was the first Cuban-American elected to the Virginia General Assembly. He currently serves on the House Courts of Justice Committee, Civil Subcommittee and the Privileges and Elections Committee. His passion is building the right environment in Virginia for job creation, restoring funding for Virginia Beach public schools, fiscal discipline and government transparency and repealing burdensome regulations that are hurting Virginia small business owners.
In 2016 he became the Chairman of the Virginia Commission on Economic Opportunities for Aspiring Virginians and Diverse Communities. The primary focus is to study and recommend solutions for fellow Virginians trapped in a cycle of poverty and government dependency and how to open economic barriers so the full fabric of our community can cross the economic finish line.
Jason graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (B.B.A.) from James Madison University, where he was named an "Emerging Leader" and was a recipient of the Phillip Wade Hall Memorial Scholarship. Jason Miyares attended law school at the College of William & Mary, where he served on a law journal, the William & Mary Trial Team and on the Law School Honor Council.
After law school, he was a corporate real estate attorney at the Virginia Beach law firm Faggert & Frieden, P.C. at Town Center before being called to serve his community as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. There he was a successful prosecutor, handling over 600 cases, with over a 90% conviction rate getting violent criminals off our streets and keeping our families safe.
Between 2010 - 2016, he has served as a Senior Advisor to Congressman Scott Rigell sadvising him on a variety of policy and public matters. A former partner at Madison Strategies, a national strategic consulting and public relations firm, he is currently a senior litigation counsel at the law firm Hanger & Associates, with offices in Virginia Beach and Newport News. His legal practices primarily focuses on real estate, commercial litigation and landlord tenant law.
Jason has long given back to the community he loves, and is Past President of Cape Henry Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, twice chairing their Annual "Bowl-A-Thon" Committee raising money for dozens of local charities. He has served on the Virginia Beach Young Life Committee, is Past Chairman of the Hampton Roads Young Republicans, and founding member of the Hampton Roads Federalist Society.
Jason and his wife, Page Atkinson Miyares, reside in the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach. Page is Owner and Broker of Atkinson Realty, a small business that has operated, since 1943, for three generations at the oceanfront. Together with their three beautiful daughters they attend Galilee Episcopal Church, where Jason is involved in men’s ministry. Jason’s love of Virginia and the United States is only surpassed by his love of his family.
