It Takes A Village
The YMCA of Greater Omaha Youth Sports Department would like to wholeheartedly applaud the kids, volunteer coaches, and parents for another successful basketball season that ended the first weekend in March. We would like to thank our unsung partners: Millard Public Schools, Omaha Public Schools, Papillion Public Schools, Hope Church, and St. Martha's Church and our local YMCAs. With over 6,700 participants utilizing community sites for practices and games, these venues become the hub in developing youth.
We want to continue to elevate and grow our relationships with our partners, but we will need the support of the Village in totality! We ask everyone to work together to make sure we abide by the designated sites policies, supervising all children while in these facilities, adhere to inclement weather policies on school closings/facility usage, respecting school officials, and being ambassadors of YMCA's core values in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

Starting out at the YMCA....
Tonia Tauke, #22, a former Husker volleyball player, grew up playing YMCA volleyball, basketball and soccer. After a very successful college volleyball career, Tonia has moved onto running Nebraska ONE volleyball club. During her college career, she is proud to have been on a team that won the Big 12 three times, and went to the Final Four twice. Tonia broke blocking records, and still holds some of those record titles!
She said that there was alot of pressure playing college sports at the top 10 level but she has always referred back to what her father always told her growing up playing YMCA sports, which was to play sports with a smile and remember to have fun. She said that YMCA sports was fun for her, and now she makes a living doing the same thing her Dad taught her all those years ago. |
