The mission of Sound Experience is use Adventuress to Educate, Inspire and Empower all to care for Puget Sound. |

What winning $125,000 means…
Your votes did it, winning Adventuress a $125,000 grant from the Partners in Preservation (PIP) contest last month. From all of us here at nonprofit Sound Experience and aboard Adventuress, thank you! We’re still in awe of what you did for us.
With those funds, we’ll be able to rebuild Adventuress’ iconic Crowninshield stern, the third phase of a major restoration project that began last winter. While the grant is a large portion of the overall capital restoration budget - $800,000 – we will need another $75,000 for this winters’ restoration phases, and to realize the vision to expertly restore the ship for her 100th birthday in 2013.
Meanwhile, we’re also seeking funding to cover our operating expenses ,which include running the ship for our programs. Due to ongoing economic challenges, we’ve had an unprecedented number of schools request scholarship support. We are dedicated to continuing to deliver affordable, on-the-water environmental programs to schools (far below what it costs us to operate), but we simply cannot fund all our schools to bring their classrooms aboard.
The recent win showed us the collective power of the community that surrounds our ship and mission. A grant of $125,000 is a lot of money and will go far in her restoration. But it’s just the beginning of what we do and what we can be. Your continued support will permit us to get more students on board. For as little as $29, you can give a child the experience of a lifetime. From the deck of Adventuress, she can experience the majesty of Puget Sound – and can learn how her daily actions make a difference in its future. If you are in a position to help, we welcome your donation. Please click here to learn more or make a personal gift http://www.soundexp.org/index.php?page=65
Moreover, every time you join us for a Public Sail, renew your Sound Experience Membership, bring your family for a multi-day trip this summer, or join us on an Elderhostel or our Getaway-for-Grownups, you are helping to support our work to educate, inspire and empower our region’s youth to care about Puget Sound – and of course to keep Adventuress sailing. Thank you, again, from all of us!
Hope to see you aboard soon!

Jason Sneed Memorial Scholarship
The family of Jason Sneed have created this Memorial Scholarship to
commemorate the tremondous love Jason had for Puget Sound, his eagerness
to share his knowledge, and his fondness of his time aboard
Adventuress.
Known to his crewmates simply as "Sneed," Jason brought a deep passion
and knowledge of Puget Sound's ecology to our community--especially
Orcas! During his many years sailing aboard
Adventuress, he
inspired hundreds of participants throughout the Salish Sea.
We are honored to offer this scholarship to youth in memory of Sneed,
and will continue to inspire others care for the Salish Sea as deeply as
Jason did.
