Greetings !
Monday night, I was privileged to be awarded for the second year in a row the Deadline Club's Best Opinion Writing ... this time for my Reuters columns:
“The World Through the Prism of Donald Trump”
As the judges observed:
“David Andelman's commentary offers trenchant analysis with a global view, shedding light on over-looked regions like Congo and Syria. His observations are arch but not acerbic. Andelman resists sweeping partisan language and makes his case with deep research and careful persuasion. Opinion writing at its best.”
You may find all of these columns and more, archived by Reuters!
Since I am in Paris, monitoring the European Parliament elections for CNNOpinion...and working on my next book....my brilliant Reuters editor, Arlene Getz, was gracious enough to accept the award for me!

TWO BOOKS
|
Coming July 2
An Impossible Dream: Reagan Gorbachev and a World Without the Bomb
I've translated this remarkable book by the French author and historian, Guillaume Serina, and contributed an Afterword.
Mikhail Gorbachev also contribued a landmark Introduction.
It will be published by Pegasus & distributed by Norton.
Available now for pre-orders!
Coming October 2020
A Line in the Sand: Red Lines and Wars That Almost Happened
A product of my work over the past two years, part of a full-scale research project examining military and diplomatic Red Lines, their origins, anatomy, consequences and lessons to be drawn from their success, or more frequently failure.
I'll be exploring how to establish such Red Lines successfully and make use of this mechanism to bring the issues that have spawned them to a peaceful conclusion--a compelling narrative for today and a gatepost for the future.
A television project growing out of this work is also afoot!
PATREON
Meanwhile, I have embarked on a new project that will assemble in one convenient location ALL my writing, videos, podcasts, even serialization of my memoir as it is being created:
Don't Shoot, I'm an American Reporter
It's called PATREON ... and .... my patrons (!) can see it all here on this page.
DO become a patron !!
TUTTI QUANTI
Meanwhile, I will continue to write regularly for CNNOpinion and for NBCNewsThink from Paris, New York and a host of other places across the globe...exploring many of the critical issues of our times.
And on occasion appear on CNN broadcasts as well.
.
Finally, for those who haven't followed me diligently on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, here's your chance to keep up with all my writings & appearances. Follow me on all three social media!
In short, I'm still taking advantage of my rich career from
The New York Times through CBS News in Paris, to Bloomberg,
Forbes, my travels through 86 countries, and my training as an historian. Perhaps now, my journey will continue with some of you!

Also, Turner Publishing has brought out a Centenary Edition in paperback of my last book,
A Shattered Peace: Versailles 1919 and the Price We Pay Today. It has a brilliant Foreword by the distinguished editor and commentator Sir Harold Evans, together with my own thoughts on lessons to be learned in today's world, especially the Middle East, as it fractures along lines that should have been apparent a century ago. These lessons are as vital today to President Trump and his advisors as they should have been to his predecessor 100 years in the past.
In paperback, it is now also a worthy subject for classroom assignment. Teaching materials are available. And I'd be delighted to speak to any class in person or onine.
Best regards,
David
