Hello all-
We're excited about the upcoming projects we have planned this year. The SRO Aquatics Crew invites you to come and help on our projects whenever and wherever you'd like. We always appreciate and welcome extra help. Please look at the list below and contact the correct biologist listed if you'd like to help on a specific project. Please remember these dates are tentative and weather-dependent, but we will keep you updated if things change. If you've expressed interest to the biologist, you will be contacted with more information as the project date approaches.
Some of you may be aware that last year DWR introduced a new, all-digital volunteer sign-up and tracking system. Please sign up before attending if you:1. If you want to claim volunteer time for Dedicated Hunter hours.2. To sign a liability waiver if you want to get on the boat.
Logging volunteer hours also helps DWR gain federal funding, so even if you're only planning to pick nets at the boat ramp, signing up is appreciated. Please visit this link to sign up for a project, (also found here: https://dwrapps.utah.gov/Volunteer/?id=2379). Once signed up, you will be good for any fish-related sampling project in the Southern Region through June 30, 2025. So, if you sign up/register in the volunteer portal with us now, you do not need to sign up again until after July 1, 2025. It only takes a couple of minutes to sign up. You will need a customer number, which is found on any Utah fishing or hunting license you have purchased. If you don't have a customer number, you can generate one at the time of sign-up. If you are unsure if you have one, there is a look-up feature too. Not signing up beforehand doesn't prevent you from attending, but it may limit your participation to observing or just working at the boat ramp. We are trying to get set up to sign-up people on the day of the project, but it is dependent on cell service/wifi and is currently not an option at all project sites. This system is still new and we are all learning how to use it, so we appreciate your patience as we work through any bugs in the program. We will send reminders to sign up as project dates approach.

Ice-off is occurring early this year!
Good fishing at Minersville and Otter Creek Reservoirs has been reported. Ice is receding at Panguitch Lake and fish are moving to the shoreline. |
|
The weather has been unseasonably mild this winter in Southern Utah. Ice-off has stated early.
Five members fished Minersville Reservoir on Tuesday, February 25th. We were prepared for late winter conditions and brought along more than enough layers of clothing. Fishing in shirt sleeves was a surprise to all of us.
Four of us fished from the shoreline and one member, John Thomas, from his new Dave Scadden pontoon boat.
The Bruised Balance Leech was the best fly of the day. This fly was tied by Jim Cotton. He landed five nice, large Rainbows fishing the leech under an indicator, from the shoreline near the Dam. Dave Tall landed four fatties with a Landon Mayer Mini Leech in black and purple using the indicator method.
Our lone boater reported several light strikes and one fast and furious take that resulted in a long distance release. |
|
The Trout Unlimited Western Regional Rendezvous and the Wasatch Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo will be held at the end of March. |
