Papers is the story of undocumented youth and the challenges they face as they turn 18 without legal status. CLICK HERE to watch the trailer.
There are approximately 2 million undocumented children who were born outside the U.S. and raised in this country. These are young people who were educated in American schools, hold American values, know only the U.S. as home and who, upon high school graduation, find the door to their future slammed shut.
The Hidden River Film Initiative will screen
Papers on Wednesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the Reading Movies & IMAX as part of the Night of Independent Film series.

High School choral group of 35 auditioned singers under the direction of Kristen Diehl will present a varied program which includes several commissioned pieces by local composers, including David Himes ("Old Dreams"), Carl Nygard ("Ave Verum Corpus") and Jay Althouse ("Jubilate Deo"). Their Chamber Choir of 16 members from the larger group will also perform some contemporary music.
Free will offering. Free parking at Walnut and Poplar garage.

When he discovers the life insurance firm he works for has been cancelling policies weeks, sometimes days before the policy holder dies in order to avoid costly payouts, he comes to grip with the impossible - that somehow, they know the exact date when someone will die. In order to prevent the firm from destroying anymore lives, including his own, Wes will risk it all to discover an unbelievable secret.

Saul’s career spans almost 20 years of performance in virtually every major folk music venue in the U.S., Canada and many European countries. He is a veteran performer on the folk scene, singing country, blues, bluegrass and other traditional and contemporary forms of grassroots American music. Saul’s performances are known for his stunning harmonica playing, and he’s been a harmonica sideman on 19 albums to date.

Enjoy a special music performance by the Reading Philharmonic Orchestra on the Stone Terrace in the Museum's Arboretum, rain or shine. Seating begins at 3:30 p.m.; bring your own lawn chairs in case seating fills.
In addition to the concert, mothers will receive half priced admission to the museum with paid admission for one child of any age.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: City of Reading's Public Art Initiative

The City of Reading has announced the second round of funding for the NEA "Our Town" project to be implemented in 2014.
Proposed artworks may included murals, mosaics, sculptures, furniture, or any form of art suitable to the public spaces in which they will be permenently installed.
Artists will be paid to coordinate the design, creation and installation of a public work of art. Artists will be expected to work directly with at least one student, who will be paid a stipend to participate in each phase.
Deadline: Proposals will be accepted until May 30, 2014.
Selection: Artists and artworks will be chosen by June 6.
Completion: Works are expected to be created and installed between June 12 and August 15.

Your Claim To Frame is looking for artists to participate in their
"Inspired by ... Music" show. Works will be accepted in any medium but must be inspired by one of the songs on their list of the 100 best songs of all time.
Delivery of work: Wednesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 14
Exhibition dates: Friday, June 20 through Saturday, July 12
Opening Reception: Friday, June 20 from 6-9 p.m.

CALL FOR COMPOSERS: Composer Project Competition through The Green Dot Journey

The Green Dot Journey Composer Project competition will make it possible for ten living composers to receive recognition and exposure for their musical compositions. These newly written pieces will be performed in concert programs across the USA, Canada, and the British Isles as part of the Green Dot Journey.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all composers, aged 18 or older, who are Canadian or U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Reward: $1,500 plus travel expenses to the premiere on August 23 in Reno, NV
Deadline: June 1
Winners will be announced on July 1.

You're the winners of the 2014 Berks Jazz Fest Membership Drawing!
Karen Haver, Executive Director of the Berks Arts Council, and Craig Poole, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Reading, selected the winner of the Berks Arts Council Membership Campaign Contest.
The random drawing included all patrons who became a member of BAC or renewed an existing membership during the 2014 Berks Jazz Fest.
Jeanne and Stephen Trezza of Staten Island, New York, were the lucky winners of the VIP Package for the 2015 Fest, which includes two front-row tickets to four concerts during the 25th anniversary event.
