News from the Luxury Travel Expo
| I attended the annual Luxury Travel Expo in Vegas last week and was pleasantly surprised at how much attention Latin America is getting. See our blog for some detailed reports from there, but the key takeaway for me was that parts of Latin America have been saying, "What recession?" over the past year and for some tour companies, this has been the only area of growth in the world.
This region is also where the most interesting new tours are launching, where the most interesting new hotels are still opening---not permanently postponed---and where people are booking second and third trips after enjoying the first one so much. With the dollar in trouble again against the yen and euro, I expect these trends to continue for years: Mexico, Central America, and South America still offer the best bang for the buck at the high end anywhere except maybe in Southeast Asia---but with no jet lag.

What's New?
| We've been busy adding new material to Luxury Latin America over the past month, including a review of lovely Hacienda Cucin near Otavalo, Ecuador, the new Casa Cartagena in Cusco, and the latest hotel to be taken over and revamped by Orient-Express, Hotel das Cataratas by Iguassu Falls.
We also added a new story to our real estate features, Golf Communities Sprout in La Paz, Mexico (Baja).
We've been continuing our interviews with regional experts and we recently interviewed Al Argueta, a Luxury Latin America contributor and author of two books: Moon Handbook Guatemala and Living Abroad in Guatemala. See it here: Living in Guatemala.

Coming Soon
The best way to keep up with new items as they go up is to subscribe to the RSS feed of our blog. There I also toss in notable travel news from Latin America, reviews of airlines active there, and the occasional relevant book or spirits review. You can also follow us on Twitter at LuxLatinamerica. (We don't have a Facebook fan page, but if anyone out there would really read it if we did, drop me an e-mail and say so.)
Next week we'll post a feature from my coffee region tour of Colombia, as well as a review of the best boutique hotel there. We'll also have a review of Los Sauces in Patagonia, the nicest boutique hotel in Los Cabos, a few more hotels from Brazil, and a feature story on Quito and its surroundings. Stay tuned.
