Pig Roast in Bali, Simple Life in Morocco, and Mardi Gras in Vermont
You could say we publish a lot of strange stories, but who needs more top-10 lists and spa stories, right? Thanks for indulging our odd travel whims by tuning in.
This month cookbook and guidebook author (you don't see that too often) Zora O'Neill returns with a story on a personal pig roast in Bali, from squealing to serving. Jim Johnston travels to Morocco to visit his mother, who is the oldest serving Peace Corps volunteer. Bruce Northam partakes in a different kind of Mardi Gras, a Vermont version where composting cups and a charity drive take center stage.
Joshua Berman, author of Moon guidebooks on Nicaragua and Belize, takes on the travel book reviews this month and I review an assortment of world music.
See it all here: March issue of Perceptive Travel.

Our Own Awards Show Season
It's not the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but this time of year a few travel writing awards get handed out. My Mexico City story got a first prize from the North American Travel Writers Association and a second in the Solas Awards. Darrin Duford picked up a Solas Awards Silver for his great piece Showdown at the West Esplanade Canal.
At the same time, four, yes four of our contributors make an appearance in the anthology Best Women's Travel Writing 2010. Congrats to our blogger Alison Stein Wellner, plus webzine contributors Stephanie Elizondo Griest, Beebe Bahrami, and Maliha Masood. Maliha's entry, Breaking Frontiers, first appeared in Perceptive Travel.

Congrats to Cheryl T. of Minnesota, a newsletter subscriber who submitted correct answers to our monthly contest. She scored a very kewl messenger bag from OSPOP.
This month we're fighting more announcements of airline fees for pillows and blankets with a Frommer's combo travel pillow/blanket from Lug. See a photo and description here at Lug.com to learn more.

1) What is lawar made from?
2) What does Magic Hat founder Alan Newman wear on his feet?
3) What was the name of Chuck Thompson's first book?
