Evil/Not Evil Syria, Singapore Signs, and Group Trip Dynamics in Bolivia
Happy anniversary to us! Four years ago this month we launched the first issue of Perceptive Travel, with stories from Rolf Potts, Jen Leo, Bruce Northam, Harold Stephens, and Peter Moore. We knew we were onto something as Rolf's story got chosen for the Best American Travel Writing anthology, Stephens' story got cited in Wikipedia, and the others pulled in traffic that continues to this day.
Four years on and now monthly, we try to keep the good stuff coming. In our new issue, Marie Javins returns to the fold with a fun story about her trip to Bolivia as part of a group tour and there’s even a great custom illustration for it. Regular contributor Bruce Northam ignores the State Department warnings to hit part of the Axis of Evil—Syria. Joel Carillet takes a spin around Singapore, documenting the signs that keep everyone in line. Laurence Mitchell reviews four notable new world music releases..
See it all here: January issue of Perceptive Travel.

Congrats to Marci B. of Oregon who won a pair of cool Talkabout Radios from Motorola from last month's contest. Now if she gets lost in the snow on Mt. Hood, she'll at least be able to reach her buddies.
Didn't get everything you wanted from Santa? Well this month we're giving you exactly what you want. We're giving away a $25 gift certificate to Amazon in the U.S., UK, Canada, or other location of your choice.
To enter, answer the following in an e-mail to the address you got this from and include your physical mailing address in case you win. All answers are in the current issue.
1) Who is tied with Singapore in executions per capita?
2) Where does singer Totó La Momposina come from?
3) How many people died in Aleppo's 1138 earthquake?
Thanks to everyone who entered the Remarkable Photo Contest. We'll have a link to the eventual winners in the next newsletter.
