This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for common ground. What is common ground?
One person takes a vaccine and wears a mask to be healthy. Another person avoids an experimental vaccine and spends time outdoors without a mask to be healthy.
The common ground is that each person wants their body to be as healthy as possible.
Another example: One person votes for a government that provides a multitude of services to help its people and wishes to pay higher taxes to support these services. Another person votes for smaller government, so they can pay lower taxes and have money to spend on their favorite charities or industries that help others.
The common ground is that they each want to help others.
A third example: Each person wants to ensure that a fellow human being has a chance to live life, to be able to work and love, to have shelter and nourishment, with dignity, without prejudice. The two people go about arriving at that outcome differently, but the goal is common ground.
As people, we have more in common than you would think. And, we tend to draw near those with whom we have common ground.
In any debate, look past the differences for the common ground. From that, you can build peace.
Sincerely,
Rebecca
