court" briefs have been filed by pro-life organizations and individuals. Constitutional experts on both sides of the issue have agreed that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision, not based on the Constitution. This case therefore has the potential of overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing states to restrict abortion before viability, and in fact ban it altogether, since the Constitution contains no clause that assures a right to an abortion. The decision is not expected until June of 2022.
What will happen if Roe v. Wade is overturned? The power to decide the legal status of abortion will return to the states. Some states will allow abortion up until birth, and others will ban it completely. Some states have already passed “trigger” bills, which will immediately ban abortion to the full extent that is allowed by the Supreme Court. In other states the pro-life factions will push for banning abortion and at least some are likely to succeed, while others will restrict abortions in various ways.
Some women who are not able to get abortions in their home state will travel to other states to obtain one. Women unable to get abortions will hopefully turn to the pro-life pregnancy centers and other groups to help them, and the country will learn that the pro-life community really is there to help, and women can continue to go to school and pursue their dreams without resorting to killing their children. Hopefully many women will testify that they are so glad that they did have their children, that the myth of abortion being “necessary” for women will be exposed for the falsehood that it is.
