Education: Pro-life volunteers work to prevent abortion by peacefully and legally standing along highways with signs in Life Chains, and by displaying signs and praying outside abortion clinics. They also sometimes try to approach women entering a clinic to offer her information on alternative solutions to her problems. report that the no-show rate for abortion appointments goes up when there are people outside, sometimes to as high as 75%.(1) We are making a difference.
Unfortunately, the caring pro-life volunteers who spend time outside abortion clinics have been subjected to violence on numerous occasions over the past several years. [
Note: original publication date was 2019.] They have been assaulted, their signs stolen or destroyed, had urine poured on them, and been threatened by a moving car. (2) And the violence is not limited to outside abortion clinics. A teenager who was handing out pro-life literature in a public park was given a broken nose, and an elderly man who was soliciting signatures to ban abortion was thrown to the ground, suffering a broken hip (see picture). (3) These incidents have been largely ignored by the media, and no one in the abortion industry has condemned them. The pro-life movement, however, has loudly condemned any violence on the part of pro-lifers. In the latest incident, on 4/5/25, a journalist was interviewing a woman on the street in New York City. The woman spoke peacefully with the journalist for several minutes, which included expressing her opinion that foster children could be killed, before suddenly punching her in the face. (4)

Prayer: Please, Lord, protect the pro-life volunteers who seek to save women and babies from abortion, especially those praying and advocating outside abortion clinics. Give all pro-life activists courage to continue their work in the face of the possibility of violence. Help the witness of the volunteers serve to deter women from choosing abortion and seek the help that is available to them with life-affirming alternatives. Help all leaders on both sides of the issue to be unified in condemning violence, as an unjustified response to peaceful expression of an opposing view. Help all perpetrators of such violence be subject to appropriate consequences for their actions. |

Action: Please consider participating in being a public witness on behalf of our pre-born brothers and sisters. While praying outside an abortion facility is certainly daunting, just wearing a pro-life T-shirt while you walk or jog for exercise is also being a witness. Be willing to speak up in defense of life when someone expresses support for abortion. Share the value of pregnancy centers and how you support them. abortion. Tell your government representatives of your support for pro-life legislation and opposition to support for abortion, and support pro-life candidates running for office. While you may prefer other candidates on other issues, what issue is more important than the life and death issue of abortion? |
