Hello Half Moon Racers! Thanks very much for signing up for the Half Moon in August. This is the second update of the season and we have some important details so read on!

Gear List Update and Questions
There seems to be one thing we forget to add to the list every year, but is critical to your race. THREE DROP BAGS! See below for the description. Here is the gear list: http://www.fullmoonadventure.com/files/HMIA_2010_Equipment_List.pdf .
We typically have a lot of questions starting around this time so I hope I can answer the most common ones here.
Kayaks - We provide the two-seater kayaks, you provide everything else on the gear list, including PFDs and paddles.
Drop Bags - You need three bags for your gear, which we will bring to the appropriate spots on the course. You need one for your hiking gear, one for your biking gear, and one for your paddling gear. Anything that is durable, and preferably water resistant, will do (duffel, hockey bags, large backpack, etc). These need to be labeled with your team number. They need to be piled up and ready to roll by the end of the race meeting.
Food + Water - You need to bring your own food and put it in your drop bags. We will have some small snacks on the course but do not rely on this for your primary sustenance. We will have some water at transition areas only. You should be prepared to fill your bottles/bladders from streams (that's why there are purification tablets on the list).
We have added three things to the list: a timing chip, a cell phone that will be bagged and sealed at registration, and an abdominal pad for your first aid kit.
The cellular coverage in this area is spotty once you leave town but it is simply a precaution and an extra piece of safety gear. Telus and Bell tend to work best in this area.
You will be asked to leave some sort of collateral for your timing chip - generally a piece of ID or bank card. This will be kept secure with race admin until you return the chip.

Accommodations & Camping
We are pleased to tell you that our friends at Green Mountain Co. (a local land owner and future real estate developer) will allow Half Moon Racers to pitch tents on their property, right down the street from the Polish Hall. We will have portable toilets set up but this is not a serviced campsite - it's just a big field! No fires will be allowed. Please let me know if you would like to camp here so that I can inform the owners of how many people to expect.
There are no pay campgrounds in Coleman and the nearest is the Lost Lemon, located on the west edge of Blairmore. If you want to camp for free outside of town, there are several locations in the forest
reserve that we can recommend. These are unserviced sites - you
basically drive up and camp where you want.
There are several hotels and B&Bs in the area - please ask if you want any suggestions as some are better than others.

Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for volunteers to help staff the course. If you know of anyone who wants a fun day in the country where they can cheer you on... or mock you, depending on the type of friends you have, please send them our way. http://www.fullmoonadventure.com/volunteer_halfmoon.html

Counting the Days
We are looking forward to August and the warm days it brings. Be sure to plan to stay in the Crowsnest Pass area as we want to have the biggest and latest after party yet!
Best Regards,
