Hello Everybody!
The Sinister 7 is upon us! There are already a number of racers in town, seeing the sights and stocking up on supplies. This will be the last volunteer update before the race. The energy is starting to build and we are looking forward to a fantastic weekend!
A few thoughts on things to bring:
- Lawn Chair
- Camera (take lots of photos)
- Sun screen and a hat (it's going to be roasting)
- Any food and gear you feel you need to be comfortable. We will provide snacks during the event.
We can definitely use help all day on Friday either setting up registration or putting together the staging area outside in the field.
Some of the information below is a repeat for many of you but there are several new volunteers on the list so I think it is necessary to update everyone again.
Dinner, Racer Meeting + Volunteer
Meeting
There will be a pre-race dinner at the Albert Stella
Arena from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, July 9. At that time we will have
a welcome ceremony, followed by a volunteer meeting. At the volunteer
meeting we will go over final roles, talk about safety, and answer any
questions. Volunteering for us is generally a very straightforward task -
we try and make it easy for everyone.
After the race, be sure
to come to the post-race lunch on Sunday
Getting Here
If you are from out of town, please take a look at the host site on Google Maps using this link. If you get lost at all, ask any local in Blairmore for directions to the Albert Stella Memorial Arena. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=49.607206,-114.439087&spn=0.020719,0.036135&t=h&z=15&msid=109628687437969690731.00048a2bdee0f41388ee1
Placements + Roles
It is no easy task to coordinate so many dozens of volunteers and we are working on it as we speak. Rest assured that if you requested to be paired with certain other people, you will be. If you can bring extra volunteers, please do. We only send a select few people into the field alone as we value your safety and comfort as much as anything else.
If you stated in your volunteer form that you can only help at specific times, we will definitely ensure that you are only scheduled during those times. You can see the beginnings of our big placement sheet by using this link. This will be filled in over the next week as we hear from more volunteers. This document will change quite a bit as new requests come in - we have to stay flexible to make it work. Once you are here, we will get you working! http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AvVtbKbEYQi6cmJfa0s5NzdfLW1Bd0NMRVVGZzdkc3c&hl=en
If you are not on the list, please still come to the volunteer meeting - we will definitely find a place for you.
For most volunteers the tasks will be very straightforward. If you have not already skimmed this document, please have a look at the Volunteer Overview page of our website. http://www.sinister7.com/volunteer_overview.html
You will receive detailed driving directions and instructions once you sign in on Friday the 9th.
Camping + Gear
You are allowed to tent at the host site. You can also park an RV for free just down the road from the host site. If you are at a checkpoint (CP) on the course, there is room in most places for an RV, trailer, or tent. If you are working at a CP over night, you can definitely camp at that location.
Definitely bring anything you think will help you stay comfortable. Folding chairs, food, water, a sun tarp or shelter, warm clothes in case it cools off, and so on.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Sinister 7!
Best Regards,
Brian Gallant + Andrew Fairhurst
