Course Overview
This is a *fifteen hour introductory course which provides preparatory and pre-requisite training towards an application for the recognition of languages not currently tested by NAATI and/or accreditation examination.
*12 Contact Teaching Hours, 3 hours Homework/Online learning
Participants will benefit from obtaining basic skills and knowledge of the interpreting and translation profession. This course is delivered on-site over two full days with the Ethics and Professionalism Module being delivered online via Webinar.

The Course has been developed specifically for:
- Persons interested in T/I as a career who would benefit from essential skills acquisitions towards recognition/accreditation
- Persons who wish to gain recognition in a language not tested
- Prospective candidates taking their first step in preparing Provisional and/or Interpreter or Translator tests.
- Persons wishing to participate in preparatory studies with a view of further training
- Practising interpreters and/or Translators at any accreditation level wishing to maximise their career opportunities.
The Course covers topics such as:
- History and Development of the Profession
- How to enter the Profession
- Accreditation/Recognition and Training in Australia
- The difference between Interpreting and Translation in Australia
- Community/Government interpreting: what is it and how is it done? The work Interpreters do and where they work
- The role of the interpreter/translator
- Ethics and Professionalism (delivered via webinar only):
- Code of Ethics

- Skills required for interpreting and translation:

Once completed, you will need to lodge a recognition application with NAATI and attach your certificate of attendance to your application to fulfill this requirement. Please register and pay
on-line. Participants qualify for a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the course for a fee of $50.00 payable in advance.
