This month's highlights

Homosexuals have always had some form of "visibility", but for a long time only as comic or tragic masks, perpetuating a system of attitudes based on heterosexual norms and homophobia. Only since the 1990s has cinema started to provide more realistic, honest and respectful representations of homosexual figures who could finally aspire to be, on equal terms with heterosexuals, well-rounded characters, not simply conditioned by their sexual orientation.

Come in questo scena da
L'ultima follia di Mel Brooks ...
Sometimes, as we are watching a film, we are offered another film, "within" the one we are watching. This "trick" is one of the most common and most evident ways of "breaking" the barrier between illusion and reality that a film normally erects between itself and its viewers: it is an invitation to "peek" behind the scenes, a way for a movie to reveal itself to its audience.
