Paperbacks Added to Our Line-up (and they're ready to ship!)
In its first five years, Arphax Publishing Co.
has published over 500 titles representing maps of original landowners in over
500 counties. Before today, these volumes were available only with a spiral-bound or library-bound cover option. As of today, you can purchase any current
title in a high-quality paperback edition (in addition to the other two options).
The web-site was just updated moments ago at www.arphax.com. Now, every product-page for an Arphax-published book will show you all 3 cover-options, the pricing for each, and the ability to "Add to Cart."
For those times when you felt that a county was just a little too expensive to justify purchasing right now---well, now may be the time to go ahead and take the dive. As you'll see, the paperbacks cost considerably less than our spiral-bound editions, which until now, were our least expensive option.
It took us over two years to acquire the equipment we wanted to produce a superior paperback book---and that time has finally come. We test-marketed our paperbacks at the recent Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree in Burbank. And the response was even more enthusiastic than we'd hoped.
We'll take the time to describe just how high of a quality product we produce at a later date, but if you know folks who are knowledgeable in the areas of printing and binding, let them know that the equipment from companies like C. P. Bourg and Oce manage the most important areas of our production operation. We purchase only the leaders in their class, when it comes to equipment, because our customers deserve the very best. And now you can experience that excellence with a lower-cost alternative: a paperback book.
A Growing Family Business
Arphax is a family business by any measure. We serve historians doing family research. And with the exception of occasional help recruited from the University of Oklahoma student population, the folks at Arphax are all family-members.
Many of you have met some of us out on the conference and/or lecture circuits, but many more of you probably have not. Either way, we thought we'd briefly describe the people of Arphax, so you can feel a little more connected to the folks who work hard to make your historical and genealogical research a more meaningful experience.
The founders of our company are husband and wife, Greg and Vicki Boyd. Both are native Texans who met and married in Oklahoma a mere 30 years ago. Greg is a former business-man, attorney, and software engineer. He has passionately researched his and Vicki's family-histories for over 14 years and decided to move his career to helping others do the same back in 2003.
Vicki compliments Greg's "big-picture" life-view with all of the energy and know-how it takes to actually run a business in the real world. She is every bit the multi-tasker that Greg is and their skills and gifts compliment each other in a way that makes this venture a successful one. And, oh yeah: Vicki's the nice one:)
In late 2005, Arphax was joined by Vicki's parents, Don and Nancy Kinard, who have been an integral part of Arphax's success and continue to assist us in our pursuits. About a year and 1/2 ago, Don began a fight with cancer that necessitated his and Nancy's absence from the daily operation. The good news is that Don has experienced miraculous results in two different studies conducted at M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. They still lend their time and support to the Arphax effort from time to time, and are always willing to do more. Be sure and say a special hello the next time you happen to communicate with either of them. They don't come any better than Don and Nancy.
And now we come to our newest members of the team: beginning in August, we will be joined by Jordan and Raine Boyd. Jordan is the son of Greg and Vicki and Raine is his wife. They'll be moving to Norman, Oklahoma (home of Arphax) from Albany, Georgia in the next few weeks and we are excited to gain both their energy and expertise. They are both hard-working and highly-talented (and really friendly, besides). Raine will be helping out with our customer and sales communications, and lots else that goes on around here. Jordan will be working in both production of our books and in development of new products that we currently have in the hopper.
No two of our family are even very much alike. We all share very similar values, but our gifts and talents are all over the board. We feel that both our sameness and our differences contribute to our success.
So that's what our family business looks like. And we hope you'll allow our family to serve yours, in the very near future.
