By Dr. Wedad Sadeq
Gynecologist & Obstetrician Sarah, a 28-year-old female living in Dubai, came to see me about a year ago. She had been married for 2 years, had a busy job, always did lots of sport and came to see me as she had not had her periods for more than 15 months. Her wish was to fall pregnant and she had been trying for the last year but without success.
Sarah had also been noticing an increase in daily headaches, fatigue and suffered from regular tummy cramps. She had visited her GP who prescribed her a variety of medications; she also tried physiotherapy and even Botox injections for her headaches, but without much effect.
Upon examining her I diagnosed her with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome). I also recommended her to do a food intolerance test as I suspected some intolerances and to see if by eliminating the incompatible foods would diminish her migraines.
I treated her for the PCOS and put her on ovulation stimulation medication called Metforin, and within a month she had her first period and subsequently also fell pregnant a few months after this.
Her headaches disappeared and this changed her life drastically. She said she had more energy then ever before, she was amazed at the improvement of quality of life without headaches, stomach cramps and of course finally being pregnant.

Get Tested For Vitamin D Deficiency ! -
by Dr. Maria Ridao Alonso, MD, MSc - Specialist Preventive Medicine
Vit D Deficiency is linked to osteoporosis, breast and colon cancer, as well as to body pain, and frequent colds. Many people in the UAE tend to suffer from this especially in the summer months as it is too hot to enjoy the outdoors and the sunrays. Prevention is better than cure, so… Dr Maria’s tip for everyone this month is to get a simple blood test done as a very important and preventative tool to check for Vit D deficiency.
