Bengaluru’s Vishwakala Printers has installed India’s first Heidelberg Speedmaster SX52 4-color press with coater, in addition to a Heidelberg Stahlfolder TH 82 folding machine and Eurobind 600 PUR Binder. The SX52 combines the cutting-edge performance innovation of the XL class with the tried-and-tested Speedmaster SM52 platform. With print speeds of up to 15,000 sheets an hour, and the AutoPlate feature for fast plate changes and short makeready times, the 4-color press fits medium-sized print shops well.
At the announcement of LBF’s move from Earls Court to the Olympia, many participants expected that these would be the last days of the London Book Fair. As a matter of fact, this year’s LBF at Olympia’s Grand Hall was as packed as the Paris Book Fair a few weeks earlier, increasing its number of exhibitors to the 1,500 of earlier years and achieving a footfall of 25,000 visitors over the three days. Taking a strong foothold in the professional albums printing segment, Canon has installed its second DreamLabo 5000 in Karnataka and the third in South India, at Ard Foto, one of the leading players in HD albums and prints in Karnataka. Canon has further accentuated the productivity of the printer by launching FlatSpread FS-500 – the new film hinge processor.
After launching the Stahlfolder BH/CH series a year ago, Heidelberg is adding another folder – the Stahlfolder CH 56 KT. The new intelligent automation technology used in the Stahlfolder CH 56 KT auto folding machine simplifies setup and minimizes job throughput times. Its automated parallel folding unit with buckle plates and folding rollers is accompanied for the first time in this format by an automated cross-fold unit.
One of the leading Mexican commercial printers, Infagon Web SA, has purchased a new M-600 heatset press from Goss. The press will complement a wide array of both sheetfed and web presses to meet a specific need for premium quality print in short- to mid-range run lengths. The new M-600 press is rated at speeds up to 55,000 impressions an hour and will feature a 965 mm web width and 578 mm cut-off.
K Tirumalachary, a veteran print educationalist and eminent personality of Chennai’s print industry, has breathed his last. Active till his last days, he travelled to technical fairs, ran a couple of printing magazines, formed an association for fortnightly industry discussions, taught well up to 1980s in private printing teaching institutions. Encouraged by his teaching, many of his students took up that profession heading regional schools of printing.
