Hamilton's unemployment rate drops again!
As of May 2025, Hamilton's unemployment rate has declined to 6.7%, now lower than both the provincial (7.7%) and national (6.9%) averages. This continues a steady downward trend since early 2025.

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. It's a time to recognize and celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.
Here are some workforce statistics to be celebrated!
Approximately 771,300 of Indigenous peoples living off reserve made up the labour force in 2024.
From 2005 to 2021, the number of Indigenous-owned businesses increased significantly, with a growth rate of 42.7%.
The overall rates of post-secondary completion were 45.3% for First Nations people, 56.3% for Métis and 33.6% among Inuit.

Registration for Empowerment Squared's 2025 Summer Programs is now open.
All programs require registration and are zero cost to register and participate.
Empowerment Squared empowers newcomer, racialized, and marginalized communities to succeed through mentorship, access to post-secondary education, professional skills development and entrepreneurship, and sports and recreation.
This summer we are offering:
- Summer Literacy - Grades 3 - 8
- Summer Soccer - Ages 8 - 14
- Basketball (Drop-In Hours) - Ages 11 - 19
- Camp UBUNTU - Ages 8 - 14
- Parent Support Workshops
Shuttle bus transportation available for some programs.

Who should complete the survey?
The Immigrant Survey is for immigrants, refugees, claimants, international students, temporary workers, and their families to share their experiences of living, working, and studying Hamilton.

It is estimated to take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. It is totally voluntary and anonymous.

Free Drop-In Support for Newcomers at Hamilton Public Libraries!
YWCA Hamilton’s Library Settlement Partnership (LSP) Program offers free, in-person support for newcomers at select Hamilton Public Library branches. Services include one-on-one help and group sessions on immigration, housing, employment, healthcare, and more. Interpretation in English and Arabic is available (other languages upon request).
Available weekly at Turner Park, Red Hill, Central, and Valley Park branches.

The City of Hamilton's Xperience Annex in partnership with Turkstra Lumber are offering a second cohort of their Youth Builders Program. This program provides hands-on experience and certifications in the building materials and supplies industry. This free 8-week program includes
• $25 per day to attend training
• transportation support
• safety equipment and work boots
• job support after the program

Hamilton’s Lime Ridge Mall has a new owner.
Primaris Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) has agreed to acquire a 100 per cent interest in the two-level indoor shopping complex from an entity managed by Cadillac Fairview for $416 million.
“The mall produces over $251 million in annual sales, $841 in sales per square foot, and is located in a large and growing market, with access to mass transit,” said Patrick Sullivan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Toronto-based Primaris REIT.
“There is significant opportunity for growth at this centre including leasing up vacant and temporarily tenanted space, and optimizing former department store space,” Sullivan added.
