Hamilton Labour Market Highlights – May 2025
Hamilton's labour market saw steady progress in May:

Job Demand rose by 19%, with 6,197 job postings. Top hiring employer: McMaster University.
-
Unemployment Rate dropped to 6.7%, lower than Ontario (7.7%) and Canada (6.9%).
-
Employment increased by 10,800 workers, led by gains in the private (+7.9K) and public (+3.0K) sectors.
-
Top In-Demand Jobs: Retail Salespersons, Registered Nurses, Food Service Workers, Truck Drivers, and Social Service Workers.

Fastest-Growing Occupations: Natural Resources & Agriculture (+13%), Business Admin (+7%), and Management (+5%).

Occupations in Decline: Art & Recreation (-3%), Health (-2%), and Sales & Service (-2%).

Who should complete the survey?
The Immigrant Survey is for immigrants, refugees, claimants, international students, temporary workers, and their families to share their experiences of living, working, and studying Hamilton.

It is estimated to take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. It is totally voluntary and anonymous.

Program Summary:
• 2 week employment readiness training• Introduction to child care centres, policy and procedures
• Certification in: - CPR/First Aid
• 16 week work placement
• One-on-one mentorship
Eligibility:
• Post-secondary education and experience in teaching or childcare
• A Permanent Resident or Convention refugee
• English Language Benchmark 6+

Newcomer English Conversation Club – June 10
Join us at the Barton Branch on Tuesday, June 10 from 11:30am to 12:30pm for the
Newcomer English Conversation Club.
This drop-in program offers newcomers a welcoming space to practise speaking English in small groups while connecting with others in the community.
No registration needed—just come by the Program Room at Barton and join the conversation, facilitated by Hamilton Public Library staff.
