Celebrate Dundurn Park: 125 Years of Community, Heritage & Nature
Step back in time and celebrate a true Hamilton treasure — Dundurn Park, a landmark that has been at the heart of the city for over a century. First opened to the public in 1900, Dundurn Park has served as a beloved green space for generations of Hamiltonians, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and community connection.
This year marks the 125th anniversary of Dundurn Park, and we're inviting the entire community to join us in honouring this incredible milestone. Mental Health in Hamilton’s Black Community: A Symposium
Dr. Ingrid Waldron (Professor and HOPE Chair in Peace and Health Global Peace and Social Justice Program, Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, McMaster University) invites you to attend Mental Health in Hamilton’s Black Community: A Symposium, which takes place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 8 am – 5 pm at McMaster’s Continuing Education Building in Rooms 204/206 at 1 James Street North. Hosted by Josie Elysia, the symposium will focus on Black Hamiltonians’ experiences with mental health issues and accessing mental health services and other supports in Hamilton.
The event will engage attendees in conversations on how mental health services and programs, community organizations, mental health policy and mental health research can better address the experiences of Black Hamiltonians who are struggling with mental health issues. There will be a keynote panel, youth plenary, roundtable sessions and a workshop – all with the goal to spark solution-oriented discussions on how cross-sectoral collaborations can lead to more meaningful best practice approaches for addressing gaps in mental health care for Black Hamiltonians.
There will be free catered breakfast, refreshments and lunch, drum and dance performances by Afiwi Groove School, a spoken word performance by Randell Adjei (the first Poet Laureate of Ontario), and great music throughout the day by DJ Crys Music.
Please join us for a day of inspiring conversations, networking opportunities, great food, and entertaining and powerful performances!

Veterans have many valuable skills to offer the civilian workforce, but sometimes need support to identify a post-military pathway, acquire the necessary credentials or professional development opportunities, and connect with potential employers. These programs, organizations and resources may be of interests to clients who are currently serving or formerly served in the Canadian military.

Each year, many skilled newcomers arrive in Canada, eager to contribute to the workforce. Yet many face unexpected roadblocks when trying to integrate into the labour market – despite years of training, experience and expertise.
With record-high immigration levels, Canada depends on these skilled newcomers to fill critical labour shortages in fields like healthcare and technology. However, research by the Labour Market Information Council (LMIC) has identified critical gaps and challenges in Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) system.
