At WPH, we are actively engaged in researching Hamilton’s Green Economy. Our objective is to uncover insights on the current status of Hamilton’s local Green Economy, providing a comprehensive overview of the region’s Clean Economy landscape.

Our goal is to identify both macro and micro-level changes that local businesses are implementing to foster a Greener Hamilton.

In December 2024, the Hamilton CMA saw a 2% growth in population, at a total of 708,200 Hamiltonians. The labour force, which shrunk by 0.6%, amounted to 450,100 persons employed, looking for work, and unemployed. Employment in Hamilton declined in December, with 417,100 employed persons (-1.2%).

Whereas, unemployment greatly increased by 7.5%. In December, there were less people currently employed and looking for work. With the participation rate declining by 0.5% to 63.6%. With the temporary shut-down of businesses, and by extension, business services during the holidays, interest in looking for work is expected to wane in anticipation of the new hiring cycle. 

Unpaid internships used to be a trusted route to securing a paying job.

At the very least, the intern received workplace experience in an industry and could list it on their resume, making them more desirable to future employers...

The former Hamilton Bulldogs relocated to Brantford in 2023 due to the then-upcoming renovations at the First Ontario Centre in Hamilton and disagreements with city officials.

The announcement of a new owner now raises questions about the $140 million plan to build a new sports and entertainment centre.

The City of Brantford’s website says construction could start as early as this year, with the goal to open in 2027.
