Form and Formless - Tenmoku Ceramics of Chang Kuei-Wei
During 15 Years of painstaking research and countless ruined firings, the artist Chang Kuei-Wei used Iron as a color fixative in 2010. This created a slight golden sheen on the ceramic glaze, which is one of the largest breakthroughs in over a thousand years.

Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum receives over 10 million visitors a year. In order to train English-speaking volunteers, the Buddha Museum is organizing the International Docent Training Course for people who are interested in English tour guiding. This course will provide them with an opportunity for cross-cultural interactions, and for the Museum to provide better language services and a more friendly environment to visitors from around the world.

Buddha Museum Shines in 11th Global Conference On Buddhism in Berkeley
Venerable Ru Chang, Director of Buddha Museum was invited to attend the 11th Global Conference On Buddhism, University of California, Berkeley. On the 30th of June, in the panel on “Buddhism to the public domain,” Venerable Ru Chang was invited to talk about the Buddha Museum in Zellerbach Hall, University of California, Berkeley. In the speech, Venerable Ru Chang elaborated on how Buddha Museum transcended other Museums by serving as a multi-disciplinary platform in the fields of arts, culture, education, and inter-faith dialogue. During the session, Venerable Ru Chang quoted Dr. Lewis R. Lancaster, moderator of this panel, as saying “When I see the thousands of school children who come through this exhibit, compared to many museums, it is so lively. It is filled with the fact that this place is opened to the public. I think museums around the world can learn a lot from them.”

The Great Translation Master of Buddhist Texts: Xuanzang
The Eight Buddhist Patriarchs located along the front of the Main Hall symbolize propagation of the Eight Chinese Schools in Humanistic Buddhism. Xuanzang founded the Faxiang School and was known as the Tripitaka Master because of his profound understanding of sutras, vinayas, and sastras. As a Buddhist scholar, translator, diplomat, and geographer, Xuanzang is regarded as one of the most prominent Buddhist in Chinese history.
