Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the FDA:
1. Never studied the safety of the chemical abortion drugs under the labeled conditions of
use.
2. Ignored the potential impacts of the hormone-blocking action the drugs have on the
developing bodies of adolescent girls.
3. Disregarded substantial evidence that chemical abortion drugs cause more complications
than surgical abortions.
4. In April of 2021, the FDA removed the requirement for an abortionist to physically meet with
the woman and give her the drugs, allowing for chemical abortions by telemedicine and
mail order, and for the pills to be given to women without their knowledge. In December of
2021, the FDA made this change permanent.
ADF, representing a host of medical organizations and doctors, filed a lawsuit in November 2022, to accuse the FDA of failing their legal obligation to protect the health and safety of girls and women. (1) On April 7, 2023, a federal judge in Texas ruled that the FDA approval of the abortion drug mifepristone is stayed (nullified). The decision was set to go into effect in 7 days, and the Biden administration filed an appeal the next day. (2, 3)
