Education: There are many reasons why women considering abortion do not choose adoption as an alternative. Since adoption is rarely spoken about, it may not even occur to her. If she does consider adoption, she may think of it as abandoning her baby and being a bad parent, or that it would be too hard to leave her baby and |

she would end up as a single mother after all.
One mother looked back at the fears she felt during her pregnancy. “
Fear of the adoptive parents not taking care of my baby. Fear that once the adoptive parents had my baby they might leave me and never talk to me again. Fear that placing my baby for adoption would be too painful for me and I wouldn’t be able to do it. Fear that I would never get over the emotional pain and sadness. However, I can honestly say all those worries are gone – every single one of them has been replaced with joy… Parents want the best for their children and I can say with 100 percent certainty that I gave my daughter the absolute best I could when I placed her into Mark and Bethany’s loving home. Open adoption has been an immense blessing in my life. Unlike abortion, I didn’t lose my baby. With open adoption, I gained a family and so can any woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.” (1)
It is estimated that 2 million American couples are currently wanting to adopt. (2) Many couples are deterred by the cost. The Henry & Andrea Bomberger Adopted and Loved Fund was established to provide grants to Christian families wanting to adopt. (3)

Prayer: Dear Father God, please help all women in crisis pregnancies to be informed about the option of adoption, including open adoption. Help them to see it as a loving way to provide for their child if they are unable to do so themselves. Help them to turn to you in prayer to discern your will for their child, and make the best decision for both themselves and their child. Help their family members to accept their decision and give them loving support. Bless families who want to open their homes to adopted children, and help them to be patient in waiting for the child you want to send them. Please bless the efforts of the Radiance Foundation to help couples wanting to adopt to overcome the financial burden of doing so.

Action: Use the preferred terminology in speaking about adoption: "She made an adoption plan", or "They have children by both birth and adoption." Be aware of open adoption, where birth parents can work out an arrangement that they are comfortable with, getting pictures, writing letters, or even being able to be a part of the child's life. Endorse adoption as a loving choice rather than abandonment of a child.
