Our Curriculum Committee, chaired by First Vice President Carlos Glender has lined up terrific speakers week after week. This Friday’s presentation on Carolina wildlife promises to be about another entertaining topic.
With our summer “recess” looming (following our term-ending spring luncheon on June 5), I thought it appropriate to mention some of the interesting positions within the organization that we hope to fill soon. Please consider whether you’d like to get more involved by serving in one of these roles.

We need a liaison for our relationship with Queens University. As we are working to make that relationship more valuable for our members, the liaison will serve as an important linchpin in that regard.
Senior Scholars is nothing but its membership. The Membership Committee serves a vital function in the ongoing operation of this organization. We need a member who would like to fill the critical role of Chair of that committee. The link on the website to learn about and to volunteer for these and other opportunities appears below.

Did You Mark Your Calendars?
Get ready to enjoy our last event before our summer break—our wonderful spring luncheon. Save Thursday, June 5 from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. for this perennially popular gathering. It will be at the Raintree Country Club, 8600 Raintree Lane (near the Arboretum off Pineville-Matthews Road), and cost $45 per person. The sumptuous buffet will include herbed chicken, pulled pork and fixings, mixed green salad, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and berry cobbler. Cash bar will be available. Our speaker will be local historian and man-about-town Tom Hanchett, who will talk about Charlotte’s changing food scene and hidden restaurants you should try.
Sign up online at Spring Luncheon to pay using PayPal or credit card (preferred method) or for instructions on paying by check. Members can also visit the sign up table in Wolfe Hall at Friday meetings. |

VOLUNTEER TODAY!
As you know (because we constantly tell you), Senior Scholars is an all-volunteer organization. Without the efforts of the many who gladly donate their time and effort, we would not all enjoy the presentations, retreat, field trips, and social interaction of membership. The volunteer herself or himself gains much directly, though, from being actively involved. A sense of community, realization of new or enhanced skills, improved mental health, improved self-esteem, new friends, finding purpose, making meaningful contributions to our generation and the community are things that we experience by doing so. Review our needs for additional volunteers from our membership and contemplate how you might benefit yourself while helping us all. Our main needs currently are for a Queens University Liaison, a Wildacres Committee Co-Chair and a Membership Committee chair.
