Greetings, Senior Scholars members. As our spring 2025 semester nears its end, don’t forget our spring luncheon on June 5, which will mark the end of the term.

We had expected to hear a presentation on May 30 by Chief Reginald Johnson of the Charlotte Fire Department. An unfortunate scheduling conflict, however, will prevent Chief Johnson from meeting with us. He has arranged for Battalion Chief Horne to speak in his stead. Chief Horne will provide us insight into the operations of an agency that is so critical to the safety of Charlotte. This talk, which will be our last educational presentation for the spring term, will serve as something of a counterpoint to last year’s presentation by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. We all will appreciate even more the contributions of those individuals when you encounter them in the course of their duties.
We are also looking to fill the position of Secretary effective in September. The person assuming this role will be a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. If interested please use the Volunteer Sign-Up Form.

VOLUNTEER TODAY!
As you know (because we constantly tell you), Senior Scholars is an all-volunteer organization. Without the efforts of the many who gladly donate their time and effort, we would not all enjoy the presentations, retreat, field trips, and social interaction of membership. The volunteer herself or himself gains much directly, though, from being actively involved. A sense of community, realization of new or enhanced skills, improved mental health, improved self-esteem, new friends, finding purpose, making meaningful contributions to our generation and the community are things that we experience by doing so. Review our needs for additional volunteers from our membership and contemplate how you might benefit yourself while helping us all. Our main needs currently are for a Queens University Liaison, a Secretary and a Membership Committee chair." (We have found a good candidate for Wild Acres).
